Bridgeport Girls Place 2nd in WTC

During the third and fourth of February, the Bridgeport Lady Bulldogs played in the Western Trails Conference Tournament and placed second. Going into the tournament the girls were seeded first so they got the first round bye and didn't have to play on Thursday. The Lady Bulldogs then took on the Mitchell Tigers on Friday in the semi-final round and won 51-27. The girls struggled at the beginning of the game and only led by five going into half time, but at the start of the second half they stepped it up and outscored the Tigers 20-2 in the third period. Bridgeport kept the intensity up throughout the rest of the game and came away with a big win.

Leading the team in points was Bethany P. with 14. Following closely behind her were Lauren F. with 12, Cassie W. with 10, and Natalie H. with 7.

On Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs took on the Gordon/Rushville Mustangs in the Championship game. The girls lost 37-49. Going into halftime Bridgeport was only down by three, but at the start of the third quarter, the Mustangs went on a little run that put them in the lead for the rest of the game.

Coach Schluterbusch said about the game, "I thought Gordon played very well. They had a lot of other kids step up in addition to Schmidt and Hoagland. The Janssen girl hit a couple of big three's for them, and I thought that was the key. Our girls battled and never quit. They played hard all four quarters, but Gordon just played too well tonight."

Leading the team in points was Lauren F. with 12. Following her were Ashley V. with 8, and Natalie H. with 5.

The Bridgeport Girls basketball team will have its third and final chance to play Gordon/Rushville this Friday at Gordon at 5:30. Good Luck and Congratulations on placing 2^nd in WTC!!!
