2nd Grade's Pumpkin "Project"
by Melissa Krason
October 30, 2007
This fall, both Mrs. Payne's and Mrs. Bilby's 2nd graders had a unique science and writing project. They took a field trip to the pumpkin patch and each student picked out a pumpkin. Next, they came back to the classroom and began hypothesizing how heavy it was when they picked it out of the field and how heavy it will be after the insides were removed. They also had to hypothesize how many seeds were in their pumpkins. With the help of the 6th grade classes, the students went outside and began carving their pumpkins and setting aside the seeds. When they were finished carving, they had to count up all the seeds and finally, they came indoors to write up their experiences and results of their findings. It was a great experience for all the students.
